The DNC Convention

August 28, 2008

This may seem like an odd reason to post, but I absolutely did not follow the media followup to the Convention, beyond walking by a few muted TVs tuned to CNN and reading a very short post or two (without visiting the comments) about some of the speeches made by Kucinich, Biden, Hillary Clinton, etc…

But I feel my ignorance is actually an asset for certain observations.

Even with such cursory attention paid, I can see how elaborate and dressed-up this convention was.  Great strategic/political move by the Democrats, I think.  It’s time we be honest about the state of discourse on television and just recognize what the media likes.  The DNC dressed up its convention like a prostitute, and the television media will find that irresistable. And can you imagine the RNC trying to top that?  Surrounding McCain in all the colour and excitement would only accentuate his lack of both.  As someone who is not following either convention, as much as I can help it, I think I can remain fairly independent in my assessment of them.

I’m glad to hear that Kucinich appeared to get some major face time.  He appears to represent the progressive wing of the Democratic party.  Hence his size. (But really, I’m actually glad to see people like Henry Waxman, Dennis Kucinich, and Bernie Sanders who seem to have no designs on the Presidency so are free to actually do their jobs.  It’s just too bad that in at least two of those cases, the reasons why they can never be viable presidential candidates is childish…)

Whose childish now? I make a crack about Kucinich’s height and immediately decry the public’s lack of acceptance of a person’s ’seriousness’ when they tend to be on the small side. I’ll keep it as is, unedited, but I really have to cut the childish sarcasm. If I’m going to have fun at someone’s expense, I should insure it stays on topic…

ADD: Is it just me or do all bloggers seem to want to be political consultants? Why the fuck should the DNC care what I think? They never have before.

Thanks for the support, Jeff. Appreciate it.

Btw, your comment was marked as spam, hence the delay. I am perplexed as to why though?
